WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley softball swept Bridgeport 5-3 and 6-5 in its home opener on Thursday, with a rally late in game two to complete the sweep.
The Falcons trailed game two 5-3 going into the bottom of the sixth inning.
Hailey Feiler worked a walk to begin the inning and
Michelle Diaz was brought in to pinch run. Diaz advanced to third with two productive outs before
Katie Welch singled to right field to drive her in.
Bella Burke and
Jordan Krause kept the rally alive with two out hits. That brought up
Kim Saunders who delivered a clutch single up the middle to bring in Burke and Krause to give Bentley a 6-5 lead.
Riley Piromalli came in for the 7th inning to close out the win and earn the save.
In the bottom of the third, Saunders doubled with the bases loaded to drive in all three runners and erase an early 3-0 deficit.
In the game one, Krause got it started with a solo homer in the bottom of the 1
st inning, her 3
rd of the year.
Bentley gradually built its lead with one run in each of the 2
nd, 4
th, 5
th and 6
th frames.
Kim Saunders pitched four innings of one run ball to earn the win and Piromalli picked up the save with 1.2 innings of work.
Bentley (9-9) will next host Saint Anselm on Saturday for its NE10 opener.
