WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley softball team forced extra innings by rallying for four run with two outs in the seventh inning against Saint Anselm Tuesday afternoon, but the Falcons ultimately came up short, 8-6. It was the second game of a doubleheader against the Hawks.
Bentley entered the seventh frame in a 6-2 deficit.
Carly DiMento led off with a pinch-hit single. The following two batters got out, as DiMento advanced to only second base in the process. Saint Anselm was only one out away from a four-run victory.
However, DiMento came in to score when the right fielder dropped a pop fly off the bat of
Jordan Krause. The error put Krause on second base, and she came in to score a single hit by
Kim Saunders. All of a sudden Bentley was within two runs, 6-4, with a runner on.
Hailey Feiler and
Becca Harris hit consecutive singles to make it a 6-5 game.
Lexi Vail and
Ava Lanza drew consecutive walks to force in the tying run.
The Falcons threatened to walk off with a win in the eighth inning, when they had runners on the corners with one out. Still, Bentley wasn't able to push across the winning run.
Krause finished the game 2-for-5 with 2 RBI, and
Bella Burke (2-for-4) also had a two-hit effort.
The Falcons lost the first game of the doubleheader, 11-3, in five innings. Krause went 2-for-3 and scored twice, while Saunders was 2-for-2 with a couple of RBI doubles.
Bentley hosts Southern New Hampshire Wednesday, April 2, for a doubleheader that starts at 2:30 p.m.
