Krause homers, DiMento makes game-saving catch to beat Franklin Pierce

RINDGE, N.H. – Jordan Krause hit her fifth home run of the season, and Carly DiMento made a game-winning diving catch as the Bentley softball team beat Franklin Pierce, 3-2, in the second game of a Northeast-10 doubleheader Friday. Franklin Pierce won the first game, 4-2.

Krause a key catalyst for Bentley taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning, and she belted a solo home run in the fourth.

Jess Morrison led off the first inning with a single, and two batters later Krause singled to put runners on the corners with one out. The Falcon duo executed a double steal to take a 1-0 lead, and Krause later came in to score on a passed ball.

The Ravens got a run back in the bottom of the opening stanza.

Leading off the top of the fourth inning, Krause cleared the outfield fences to push Bentley's lead back to two runs, 3-1. Krause finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate.

Franklin Pierce nearly stole the game in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Bentley centerfielder DiMento made an incredible play to seal the win.

The Ravens had runners on first and third with two outs, and the Falcons were clinging to a 3-2 lead. Franklin Pierce's batter ripped an offering to right-centerfield. The ball looked certain to land safely, but DiMento made a diving catch for the third and final out.

Maddie Pickett earned the win after allowing one earned run in her four-inning start, and Riley Piromalli earned a three-inning save.

Piromalli tossed a six-inning complete game, but the Falcons came up just short in the first game Friday.

Bentley trailed 1-0 after three innings, but the Falcons tied it in the fourth. Bella Burke led off with a double, and she scored on a single hit by Maddie Baker.

The Falcons scored their second run the next inning. Grace Messina hit a one-out single, stole second, and moved to third on a passed ball. After DiMento drew a walk, Morrison singled home Messina.

Morrison finished the game 2-for-4, and Kim Saunders went 2-for-3.

The Falcons travel to Saint Michael's Saturday, April 19, for a conference doubleheader.
