Game Recap: Softball |

Pickett, Piromalli lead Bentley to two wins at New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Riley Piromalli earned her sixth win of the season by making a 10-inning start, and Maddie Pickett recorded her first-career complete game victory as the Bentley softball team won both ends of a Norhteast-10 doubleheader at New Haven Friday.

Bentley 3, New Haven 1 (10 inn.)
Piromalli allowed just one earned run through 10 innings to lead the Falcons to a 3-1 win over the Chargers. In her second season with Bentley, Friday marked the most innings Piromalli has tossed as a Falcon. Her previous high was 9.2 innings against Purdue Northwest March 14, 2024.

New Haven got to Piromalli early with a run in the first inning, but she was locked in from there on out.

Bentley tied the game in the fourth inning. Maddie Baker led off with a double, and she moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Hailey Feiler. Becca Harris then hit a groundball to shortstop, allowing Baker to score the tying run.

Both teams hit a double in the seventh inning, but neither runner scored. Jess Morrison accounted for Bentley's double in the seventh stanza before the game went into extra innings.

Bella Burke started the 10th inning as the runner on second, and she moved up a base when Jordan Krause grounded out. Kim Saunders smacked a single to right field to score the go-ahead run, 2-1. After Baker hit an infield single, Feiler reached base on an error that allowed Bentley to add an insurance run.

Morrison went 4-for-5 from the leadoff spot, and Baker finished the game 3-for-5.

Bentley 6, New Haven 1
Pickett, a freshman, had the best outing of her young career by allowing just one run on seven hits through seven innings. It was her third win of the season.

Similarly to the first game, New Haven to an early 1-0 lead. This time, however, Bentley rallied for three runs in the third, and the Falcons did it all with two outs. After the first two batters grounded out, Morrison and Baker reached base on consecutive errors. Krause hit a single that allowed Morrison to score, and Saunders followed with a single to load the bases.

From there, Harris came up with a clutch two-run single to make it a 3-1 Bentley lead.

Saunders added an RBI single in the fifth inning. In the seventh inning, Morrison and Baker led off with consecutive singles that put runners on the corners. Krause hit a sac fly to score Morrison, and Baker eventually came in to score on a single by Feiler.

Feiler went 3-for-4 in that second game Friday, while Baker, Saunders, and Harris each collected two hits.

Bentley remains on the road to take on Southern Connecticut Sunday, April 6.
