Shin, Travers Honored by Northeast-10

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Bentley University's Mike Walsh (South Salem, N.Y./John Jay HS) and Emily Travers (Brentwood, N.H./Exeter HS) have been named the Diving Athletes of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference. In addition, the conference selected Falcon freshman Amy Shin (Lancaster/ Nashoba Reg. HS) as its Women's Rookie of the Week.

It's the second time this season that Walsh as been chosen as the men's top diver, and the third time that Travers has collected the women's award.

Walsh, a junior, posted victories in three of four one-meter diving events during the week, with combined scores of 395.10 at St. Michael's and 435.35 at Saint Rose. The latter was a school 11-dive record, breaking the existing mark by 4.25 seconds.

Travers, a senior, captured both one-meter diving events at Saint Rose, with scores of 156.75 and 260.45, the latter an NCAA qualifying mark for six dives. Earlier in the week at St. Michael's, she placed second and third, with scores of 159.95 and 198.20.

During a 2-0 week for the undefeated Bentley women, Shin had a first and a second in two individual races and helped Bentley win three of four relays. At St. Michael's, she was part of the Falcons' winning 200 medley relay and 200 free relay teams, which registered times of 1:55.10 and 1:47.01, respectively. In between, she was second in the 200 freestyle (2:06.53). In the Saint Rose meet, Shin touched first in the 50 free (25.75), helped the Falcons take the 200 medley relay in 1:53.94 and was part of the team's 200 free relay that was second in 1:44.88.
