SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Seven different athletes won individual events as the Bentley University women's swimming and diving team opened its dual meet schedule with a 153-132 win over Le Moyne College Saturday afternoon at the Henniger Athletic Complex Ryan Pool. The victory was the 13th straight for the Falcons, dating back to January 2010.
Bentley won 10 of the 14 swimming events, with sophomore Kellen Power (San Jose, Calif./ Valley Christian HS) and freshman Danielle Hellstern Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug (HS) leading the way. They opened the meet by pairing with juniors Taryn Dooley (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam HS) and Jessica Hodsdon (Brewer, Maine/Brewer HS) to win the 200 yard medley relay in 1:52.58.
Hellstern and Power also closed the meet with a winning effort in the 200 free relay, teaming with sophomores Amanda Le (Chelmsford/Chelmsford HS) and Amy Shin (Lancaster, Mass./Nashoba Reg. HS) for a time of 1:44.30. In addition, Hellstern touched first in both the 100 free (56.46) and 50 free (26.22) and Power was victorious in the 200 butterfly (2:20.69).
Bentley's other individual winners were senior Susie Boretti (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) in the 1000 free (11:29.41), Hodsdon in the 100 breast (1:08.35), Le in the 200 breast (a Le Moyne pool record 2:27.88), sophomore Heather Exley (Oceanside, Calif./Vista HS) in the 500 free (5:31.22) and freshman Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn./Danbury HS) in the 200 free (2:03.68).
Bentley will swim in the Betty Spears Relays at Wellesley College next Saturday.
