WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Bentley University women's swimming team won two events on Saturday during the Betty Spears Relays at Wellesley College with junior All-America Jessica Hodsdon (Brewer, Maine/Brewer HS) and sophomore Amanda Le (Chelmsford/Chelmsford HS) involved in both.
Hodsdon and Le combined with senior Molly Murphy (Horseheads, N.Y./Watkins Glen HS) to capture the 300 yard breaststroke relay in 3:29.96, besting Tufts University by 1.14 seconds. In the 200 medley relay, they partnered with sophomore Amy Shin (Lancaster/Nashoba Reg. HS) and freshman Danielle Hellstern (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS) for a winning time of 1:55.28.
Bentley also finished second in four events during the non-scoring meet that included participants from six different institutions. Le, Hodsdon and Shin were part of the Falcons' 200 butterfly/breaststroke relay, combining with sophomore Kellen Power (San Jose, Calif./Valley Christian HS) for a 1:58.60.
Hodsdon, Power, Hellstern and freshman Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn./Danbury HS) helped Bentley to a second and a time of 3:46.03 in the 400 freestyle relay, and the 400 medley relay team of Le, Power, Hellstern and sophomore Caroline Lewis (Westfield/Westfield HS) was second in 4:13.66.
Bentley was also the runner-up in the 400 backstroke relay with the threesome of Hellstern, Lewis and junior Taryn Dooley (Agawam/Feeding Hills HS) teaming for a time of 3:12.66.
In the middle of the meet, an "eliminator" event was held in each stroke, with one person from each team racing 25 yards until one person was left standing. Hodsdon won the butterfly, Le took the breaststroke, Hellstern was the winner in the freestyle and Dooley was second in the backstroke.
Bentley opens its home schedule Wednesday against Gordon College (6 pm).
