WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior Susie Boretti (Westford/Westford Academy) won two events and freshman diver Paige Wilde (Naugatuck, Conn./Holy Cross HS) qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships as the Bentley University women's swimming and diving team posted a 186-80 win over Gordon College Wednesday night at the Dana Center.
The victory extended Bentley's dual winning streak to 14 and boosted the Falcons to 2-0 this season.
Boretti captured the 50 yard breaststroke in 34:35 seconds and posted a winning effort of 5:37.42 in the 500 freestyle.
Wilde competed without opposition in the two diving events, posting a combined 11-dive score of 403.19 to earn the right to compete in the NCAA qualifying meet in March in Mansfield, Texas. She registered a 162.45 in the five-dive voluntary and a 240.74 in the six-dive optional.
Junior All-America Jessica Hodsdon (Brewer, Maine/Brewer HS) also played a significant role in the victory as she touched first in the 50 butterfly (27.54) and was a part of both winning relay teams. She helped the Falcons take the 200 medley in 1:54.79 and led off the 200 free relay that finished in 1:50.26.
Bentley's list of individual winners included five sophomores. Caroline Lewis (Westfield/ Westfield HS) claimed the 1000 free in 11:36.89, Kellen Power (San Jose, Calif./Valley Christian HS) was victorious in the 2:05.76, Amy Shin (Lancaster/Nashoba Reg. HS) was the winner in the 100 backstroke (1:03.88), Heather Exley (Oceanside, Calif./Vista HS) finished first in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.73) and Amanda Le (Chelmsford/Chelmsford HS) was first to the wall in the 100 individual medley (1:05.53). Le Shin and Exley were also part of winning relay teams.
Also capturing events for the Falcons were junior Taryn Dooley (Feeding Hills/Agawam HS) in the 50 back (30.49), freshman Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn./Danbury HS) in the 50 free (26.65) and freshman Kaitlyn Simoneau (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South HS) in the 100 free (59.65).
Bentley returns to action next Wednesday at UMass-Dartmouth (6 pm).
