WALTHAM, Mass. – Winning performances in four individual events and two relays, two pool records and three NCAA Division II "B" cut times. All in a day's work for Bentley University junior All-America Jessica Hodsdon (Brewer, Maine/Brewer HS) while helping the Falcons capture the five-team Northeast-10 Invitational at Bentley's Dana Center pool Sunday.
Hodsdon's individual wins came in the 200 yard individual medley (2:11.87), the 200 breaststroke (1:05.28), the 200 breast (2:27.15) and the 100 butterfly (57.12). With the exception of the 200 breast, all were NCAA "B" cut performances and her times in both the 100 fly and 100 breast bettered the existing pool records. The closest of the four was the 200 IM, which she won by 1.31 seconds.
Hodsdon swam the third leg of Bentley's winning 400 medley relay team, combining with freshman Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn./Danbury HS) and sophomores Caroline Lewis (Westfield/ Westfield HS) and Amanda Le (Chelmsford/Chelmsford HS) for a time of 4:06.62.
In the 200 medley relay, which won in 1:54.02, Hodsdon swam the second leg with the quartet also including junior Taryn Dooley (Feeding Hills/Agawam HS), sophomore Amy Shin (Lancaster/ Nashoba Reg. HS) and freshman Danielle Hellstern (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS).
Bentley's other two individual victories were registered by sophomore Kellen Power (San Jose, Calif./Valley Christian HS) in the 200 freestyle (1:58.49) and the 100 free (54.98). She also helped Bentley capture the two freestyle relays with times of 1:41.48 in the 200 and 3:44.47 in the 400.
The 200 free relay also included Le, Shin and Hellstern, and the 400 was comprised of Edwards, senior Susie Boretti (Westford/Westford Academy) and Hellstern, as well as Power.
Le recorded three second-place finishes with times of 2:13.18 in the 200 individual medley, 1:07.66 in the 100 breast and 400 IM (4:51.93). Edwards was the runner-up in the 1650 free (18:49.56) and 500 free (5:26.06), and freshman Paige Wilde (Naugatuck, Conn./Holy Cross HS) took second in the one-meter diving (233.65).
Bentley edged Southern Connecticut State for the team championship, 550-529, with Saint Rose (459) third, Pace (211) fourth and St. Michael's (182) fifth.
The next action for the Falcon women will be Jan. 6 at Plymouth State.
