NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Bentley University closed out the regular season with a 5-4 victory over Merrimack on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons finish the regular season in fifth place in the NE-10 at 9-4 and will play at Saint Michael's in the first round of the playoffs.
Bentley won four of the six singles matches and one of the doubles matches. Senior Cheryl Martin (Pittsfield, Mass./St. Joseph Central) and junior Brittany Harbert (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet) defeated Erin McMahon and Katie Veasey in third doubles 8-3.
In singles, junior Kara Murphy (Worcester, Pa./Methacton) beat Courtney Garvey in number two singles 6-0, 6-3. Sophomore Rachael Litton (Burlington, Ontario/Nelson) defeated Alyx Barnes in number three singles 6-3,6-7, 6-2, Harbert was victorious over Kylie Waddington in number five singles 7-5, 6-0 and sophomore Katie Van Gilst (Harwinton, Conn./Lewis S. Mills) bettered McMahon in number six singles 6-3, 6-2.
The Northeast-10 Tournament gets under way Monday afternoon.
