Hodsdon Captures Gold in 100 Breaststroke at NE-10 Championships

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior All-America Jessica Hodsdon (Brewer, Maine/Brewer HS) added Northeast-10 Conference champion to her resume by winning the 100 yard breaststroke Friday night during the second day of the 2012 NE-10 Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at Southern Connecticut State University.

Hodsdon twice broke the meet record en route to the title, with times of 1:04.84 in the morning prelims and 1:04.08 in the finals. She won comfortably, reaching the wall 0.74 seconds before runner-up Naomi Woodwock of Saint Rose.

Hodsdon wasn't the only Falcon to experience success in the event. Sophomores Amanda Le (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford HS) and Amanda Exley (Oceanside, Calif./Vista HS) were fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 1:08.05 and 1:08.25.

Bentley had two in the top six in the 200 freestyle with freshman Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn./Danbury HS) fourth (1:57.54) a day after winning the 500 free, and sophomore Kellen Power (San Jose, Calif./Valley Christian HS) sixth (1:57.83).

In the 200 medley relay, Bentley finished second by just nine-hundredths of a second with Hodsdon, Power, Edwards and sophomore Amy Shin (Lancaster, Mass./Nashoba Reg. HS) combining for a time of 1:49.49.

Bentley was third in the 800 free relay with Power, Shin, Exley and Edwards finishing in 7:57.44.

Bentley completed the second of three days with 450 points, well back of eight-time defending champion Southern Connecticut (660). The Falcons have a 67-point lead over third-place Saint Rose, and Assumption is fourth in the field of eight with 345.
