Millersville Shuts Down Bentley in Opener, 6-0

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Junior Samantha Ruane (Bloomsburg, Pa.) scored once in each half and four of her teammates also found the back of the net as Millersville University shut down Bentley University, 6-0, in non-conference field hockey action Friday afternoon at Biemesderfer Stadium. It was the season-opener for both teams.

Ruane staked the Marauders to a 1-0 lead with 14:07 left in the first half and teammate Alicia Youtz (Dauphin, Pa.) made it a two-goal game about two minutes later.

The second half saw Millersville extend its lead with goals by Ruane with 25:55 left, Ashley Webber (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) with 19:37 on the clock and two more in the final ten minutes.

Bentley, ranked tenth in Division II preseason, managed only five shots and four penalty corners in the game. Millersville got off 17 of each.

The shutout was shared by sophomore Lauren Sotzin (Harrisburg, Pa.), who made three saves while playing the first 61:45, and freshman Roos Bulthuis (Alkmaar, Netherlands).

Bentley will be back on the same field Saturday for an 11 am encounter with Limestone College, which dropped a 3-0 decision to UMass-Lowell earlier on Friday.
