Hodsdon Shines in Dana Center Finale as Bentley Bests Bridgewater State, 157-119

WALTHAM, Mass. – Competing in the Dana Center pool for the final time, Bentley University All-America Jessica Hodsdon (Brewer, Maine/Brewer HS) celebrated senior night by winning two individual events and participating on a winning relay as the Falcons completed their dual schedule with a 157-119 victory over Bridgewater State Tuesday night.

Bentley captured 14 of 16 events and finished its dual schedule with a 9-1 record.

Hodsdon opened the meet by teaming with three senior classmates to take the 200 yard medley relay in 1:57:72. Taryn Dooley (Feeding Hills/Agawam HS) opened with the backstroke, and the final two legs were swum by Monika Drogosz (Unionville, Conn./Farmington HS) and Kelly Mazza (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun HS).

Hodson also posted victories in both the 50 breaststroke (32.03) and the 100 individual medley (1:03.61), with both times season-bests by a Falcon. She was also second to junior Amanda Le (Chelmsford/Chelmsford HS) in the 100 breast, with Le edging her teammate by 0.28 seconds with a 1:09.11.

Junior Amy Shin (Lancaster/Nashoba Reg. HS) and freshman diver Nicola Mancini (Falmouth, Maine/ Falmouth HS) were also double-winners for the Falcons. Shin was first to the wall in both the 50 back (30.72) and the 50 butterfly (28.75), with her time in the latter the best this season by a Bentley woman.

Mancini continued her string of impressive performances with winning scores of 296.01 in the one-meter and 301.79 from the three-meter. Those efforts came three days after she registered the first two 300-point diving scores in the program's history.

Bentley's other winners included Mazza in the 200 free (2:07.52), sophomore Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn./Danbury HS) in the 1000 free (11:03.64) and freshmen Melissa Clauss (Oakland, N.J./ Bergen County Academies)in the 100 fly (1:03.50) and Lindsey Goodwin (Staten Island, N.Y./ Notre Dame Academy) in the 50 free (27.07).

The Falcons also received first-place finishes from sophomore Danielle Hellstern (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS) in the 100 free (56.99) and junior Caroline Lewis (Westfield/Westfield HS) in the 100 back (1:05.06).

Bentley will next compete in the Northeast-10 Championships Jan. 31-Feb. 2 at Southern Connecticut State.
