NEW HAVEN, Conn. –A day after making the school record in the 50 yard freestyle his own, Bentley University freshman Sebastian Bury (Bellevue, Wash./Newport Senior HS) was part of two more school records as the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Championships continued Friday at Southern Connecticut State's Hutchison Natatorium.
Bentley had four third-place finishes Friday, and third is also where the Falcons stand in the team standings. Southern Connecticut tops the point list with 528, Le Moyne College follows with 462 and the Falcons stand 17 points back of the Dolphins with 445. The College of Saint Rose is the only other of the seven teams over 400, with the Golden Knights standing at 404.
Bury's first record of the day came in the 200 freestyle, with his time of 1:43.94 earning him a bronze medal and bettering the standard that Egen Ouellette had possessed since 2009 by 1:12 seconds.
Bury's night finished with him helping the Falcons place third in the 800 free relay, with the quartet's 7:07.67 shaving 4.09 seconds off a three-year-old school record. Bury anchored after senior Tyler Champagne (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional HS) led off and freshmen Owen Karl (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton HS) and Kevin Diefenbach (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert HS) handled the middle two legs.
Bentley's other two bronzes were achieved by freshmen Colton Bridge (Tolland, Conn./ Tolland HS) in the one-meter diving (396.70) and Tim Connolly (Dorchester, Mass./Boston Latin Academy) in the 100 backstroke (53.38). The 100 back was a strong event for the Falcons with sophomore Josh Witty (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos HS) fourth (54.19) and junior Chris Woods (Westfield, Mass./Westfield HS) eighth (56.46).
In the 100 breaststroke, sophomores Connor Mulvey-Hudson (Ardmore, Pa./St. Joseph Prep) and Janco Cornelius (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield HS) were fourth and seventh, respectively. Mulvey-Hudson finished in 59.26 and Cornelius followed in 1:01.87.
Junior Peter Belanger (Andover, Mass./Andover HS) was fifth in the 100 butterfly (53.47) and freshman Alex Liulakis (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly HS) sixth in the 400 individual medley, with his time of 4:17.79 missing the school record by only 0.41 seconds.
The Falcons also took fourth in the 200 medley as Connolly, Mulvey-Hudson, Belanger and junior Steve Sylvia (Westerly, R.I./Westerly HS) posted a 1:35.95.
The championships conclude on Saturday.
