WORCESTER, Mass. – Bentley took third place as the Northeast 10 Men's Swimming and Diving Championship came to a close on Sunday.
As head coach
Mary Kay Samko celebrated her final meet after 29 years as the head coach at Bentley and four career men's NE10 titles, she watched as
Leighton Wielgoszinski and
Matthew Walden won individual medals and the 400 free relay team reached the podium.
As a team the Falcons took third place with 692 points.
Wielgoszinski won silver in the marathon 1650 free with a time of 16:16.73. That upped his medal count for the meet to four, with three individual (two silver and one bronze) and one relay (silver). He won a medal in all three distance freestyle races.
Senior
Andrew Matjucha took fifth place in the 1650 with a time of 16:49.83.
The meet came to a close with the 400 free relay and the Falcons won bronze. The team of
Daniel Ivanchikov, Danny Lehr,
Tyler Marzano and
Ethan Rehkopf swam a combined 3:09.16, beating out Saint Michael's by .15 seconds for the medal.
The evening session began with Walden taking home silver in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:50.11. That was a strong event for the Falcons with
Griffin Keliher finishing fourth (1:53.97).
Ivanchikov was fourth in the 200 fly with a time of 1:54.18 and Zach Ellis was in the top-eight finishers (1:58.60).
Rehkopf was sixth in the 100 free (47.08) and Kenny Ryu was seventh in the 200 breaststroke (2:13.30).
Owen Angkatavanich was seventh in the 3 meter dive finals.
