Bentley men ready to challenge for top spot at NE10 Championships

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Northeast 10 Men's Swimming and Diving Championships get underway on Thursday and the Bentley men's team is ready to challenge for the top spot in the nine-team field.

The meet runs from Thursday-Sunday on the campus of WPI. All four days will be streamed live on FloCollege. Live results are available on the Meet Mobile app (subscription required).

The pre-Championship coaches poll had Bentley in third with 48 points, behind Bridgeport (64 points, 8 first place votes) and Adelphi (52 points, 1 first place vote).

Bentley finished in third place last season and prior to that they were runners-up three straight years. The program has been crowned NE10 champions four times, in 2010, 2017, 2019 and 2020.

The Falcons have a number of swimmers expected to challenge for medals.

Junior Matt Walden boasts top-three times in several races in the NE10 so far this season. He has the second fastest time in the 100 IM (53.77) and the 200 back (1:50.38). He holds the third best times in the 200 IM (1:53.03) and the 100 back (50.77).

He won silver in the 200 back last year at the NE10s.

Daniel Ivanchikov has the fourth fastest time in the 200 fly entering the weekend (1:53.06).

Distance free swimmer Leighton Wielgoszinski, who won silver in the 1000 and 1650 last year, will be looking to add to his career medal total at the NE10s of six.

Bentley is also expected to be strong contenders for medals in the relays. They have the third fastest times so far this season in the 200, 400 and 800 free relays. The 200 and 400 medley relay teams also have the third fastest times.

In the diving events, Owen Angkatavanich looks to take home medals in both the 1 and 3 meter events. He boasts the third best score in the 1 meter so far and fourth best in the 3 meter.
