Bentley Suffers Tough Loss to Le Moyne 2-0

Box Score

WALTHAM, Mass. – In a match were both teams had a number of scoring chances, visiting Le Moyne came away with a 2-0 victory over the Bentley University women's soccer team on Tuesday afternoon in Northeast-10 action.

The teams combined for 18 shots on goal, with eight for Bentley and 10 for the visitors. Both teams had a number of other scoring chances that went just wide of the net.

Bentley threatened very early on with a couple of good scoring chances. Just two minutes in, forward Ana Tantum (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull HS) sent a shot in from the right wing that just missed tucking into the far post.

In the 4th minute, senior Jenny Lewis (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) sent a pass into the six yard box for forward Alyssa Valente (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan), and Valente's shot required a good diving save by Le Moyne keeper Anastasija Cumika to keep the game scoreless.

As the half wore on the teams traded opportunities. Bentley goalkeeper Deirdre Macrorie (Winchester/Winchester HS) finished the half with four saves.

Bentley closed the half with another good opportunity, after Tantum took a long pass from the midfield and got off a shot from 20 yards, only to see it roll just wide of the far post.

The Falcons then had the first good chance of the second half from Tantum. After receiving a throw-in she dribbled into the box and posted up her defender and turned to shoot on goal, only to see the ball go just wide past the Cumika's outstretched hands.

Le Moyne had begun to threaten more as the 2nd half progressed, and they scored the game's first goal in the 64th minute from midfielder Claire Stackel. The goal was setup by Stephanie Liberati after a short pass, and Stackel got off a low shot to the far post from 12 yards out for the goal, to give Le Moyne a 1-0 lead.

Just over three minutes later Le Moyne scored again, this time midfielder Azure Daley, with Liberati on the assist again. Daley's finish came from 15 yards out from the left side of the penalty area after a cross from the right wing by Liberati

That gave the Dolphins a 2-0 lead with just over 23 minutes left to play, which Bentley could not overcome.

The defeat knocked Bentley's Northeast-10 record to 4-5-2. They end the day two points behind Le Moyne and Southern New Hampshire for the final NE-10 playoff spot.
