Bentley Men Earn Bronze in 200 Free Relay, Stand in 2nd after Day 3

WORCESTER, Mass. – Turning in a school record time, the Bentley University 200 free relay team captured a bronze medal Saturday night during the third day of competition in the 2016 Northeast-10 Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at WPI.

Junior Davis Wilson (Ransom Canyon, Texas/Lubbock HS) swam the final leg, following seniors Sebastian Bury (Bellevue, Wash./Newport Senior HS), Nick Toselli (Barrington, R.I./Barrington HS) and Timothy Connolly (Dorchester/Boston Latin Academy) into the pool. They teamed for a time of 1:24.03, bettering the 1:24.58 achieved at last year's championship. Wilson, Connolly and Bury were also part of that foursome.

Bentley's top individual finish Saturday was a fifth by senior Owen Karl (Rochester, N.Y./ Brighton HS) in the 200 freestyle (1:42.76). Connolly achieved a sixth in the 100 backstroke, finishing in 52.77 after breaking the school record in the event the night before (52.53 during the 400 medley relay).

Seventh place finishes were achieved by freshman Frank Elenio (Ridgefield, N.J./Bergen County Academies) in the 400 individual medley (4:11.58) and classmate Matt Gwozdecke (Bristol, Conn./ St. Paul Catholic HS) in the 100 butterfly (51.45). Junior Dennis Witol (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt HS) was eighth  in the 400 IM (4:16.94) and the Falcons had three swimmers place first in the consolation finals: sophomore Jonny Boains (Unionville, Conn./Farmington HS) in the 400 IM (4:12.13), sophomore Aidan Karam (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) in the 200 free (1:44.21) and sophomore Christopher Vukas (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) in the 100 backstroke (53.69).

The prelims of the three-meter diving was also contested Saturday morning with the finals scheduled for Sunday night. Senior and one-meter champion Colton Bridge (Tolland, Conn./Tolland HS) had the best score (377.65) with the top five also including juniors Gregory Coleman (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North HS) and Nick Cilia (Brentwood, N.H./Exeter HS).

In the team standings, Bentley is currently second with 466 points, 130 behind Southern Connecticut State and 68 ahead of third-place Le Moyne College.

The championships will conclude Sunday with the prelims at 10:15 am and the finals at 5:30 pm.
