KEENE, N.H. – There were a number of close competitions as the Bentley University women's swimming and diving team doubled Keene State College, 194-97, Saturday afternoon on the road to improve to 4-1.
In the 50 yard breaststroke, sophomore Emily Blatt (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) edged Keene's Paige Carey by four-hundredths of a second with her time of 31.95 a Northeast-10 season-best.
The 50 freestyle was also a nail-biter with Falcon freshman Jordan Nuzback (Fairmont, Pa./McDowell HS) getting by Keene's Jachin Jang by 0.03 seconds. Nuzback also took first in the 200 individual medley with a 2:17.78.
The closest race of the meet involved two Falcons with junior Dariana Gonzales (Stamford, Conn./Westhill HS) a hundredth of a second better than teammate Marissa Adamo (Hackettstown, N.J/Mount Olive HS) in the 50 free with a 26.34. Adamo also was a close second to Falcon sophomore Emma Hapkiewicz (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) in the 100 free with Hapkiewicz finishing in 56.91 and Adamo in 57.06. Hapkiewicz was also first in the 500 free (5:20.26).
Senior Rona Mejiritski (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green HS) was a double-winner as she was first to the wall in the 1000 free (11:14.20) and the 100 butterfly (1:02.76). Junior Mary Huminski (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) swept the diving with scores of 270.30 from the one-meter and 255.59 from the three.
Bentley's other individual winners were junior Kate Galvin (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern HS) in the 200 free (2:02.01) and senior Lucy Slowe (Nashua, N.H./Nashua HS North) in the 100 back (1:02.39). Both were also part of the Falcons' winning 200 free relay team.
After the Thanksgiving break, Bentley will compete in the WPI Gompei Invitational Dec. 3-5.
