Eisenhut & Almog Gain 1st-Place Finishes at WPI's Gompei Invitational

WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Tanner Eisenhut (Jamesville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius HS) swam to victory in the 200 yard breaststroke and sophomore Hilla Almog (Wayland/Wayland HS) captured the women's three-meter diving to lead the Bentley University men's and women's swimming and diving teams during day one of the Gompei Invitational Friday night at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Eisenhut finished in 2:06.33, defeating Michael Fracchiola of Rowan University by just over a half-second. That came after he previously finished fourth in the 200 individual medley (1:55.10) and was part of the Falcons' 200 medley relay that placed seventh in 1:35.55. He closed out the night by helping the 800 free relay team to fifth (7:07.44).

The medley relay team also included sophomore Calvin Ye (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber HS) and seniors Anthony Vizental (Concord, Cal./Clayton Valley HS) and Ryan Looney (Wilton, Conn./Wilton HS).

Eisenhut led off the 800 free relay with Looney, junior Andrew Matjucha (Randolph, N.J./ Randolph HS) and Vizental following him into the pool.

Almog amassed 371.55 points off the three-meter board with a 22.7 margin of victory over Bryant's Sydney Barnett.

The next highest individual finishes for Bentley were achieved by Ye in the 50 freestyle (51.55), junior Emma Hapkiewicz (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) in the women's 500 free (5:08.53) and Matjucha  in the men's 500 (4:45.33). Each placed fifth in their respective event.

Matching the men's finish in the 800 free relay, the Bentley women were also fifth in that event. Sophomore Jordan Nuzback (Fairview, Pa./McDowell HS), Hapkiewicz, freshman Taylor White (Warwick, Bermuda/Warwick Academy) and senior Dariana Gonzales (Stanford, Conn./Westhill HS) combined to finish in 8:00.87.

Sixth-place finishes were turned in by Looney in the 50 free (21.45) and freshman Morgan Kingsley (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia HS) in the 200 breaststroke (2:28.14).

Bentley's only individual seventh came from Vizental in the 100 butterfly (50.93) while eighths were achieved by Ye in the 50 free (21.55), graduate student Jeremy Glick (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) in the one-meter diving (296.40) and freshman Caroline Ubert (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington HS) in the 100 fly (58.94).

In the team standings, Bentley finished the opening day fifth among the nine institutions with a point total of 1,080 points. Bryant University (2,347.5) is in first with a commanding lead over the rest of the field, including second-place Rowan (1392) and WPI (1288).

Action resumes Saturday with prelims at 9 am, diving at 1 pm and finals at 6 pm.
