MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Bentley volleyball team matched its season high in service aces en route to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 26-24) Northeast-10 win at Saint Anselm Friday evening. It was the 12
th consecutive win for the Falcons, and its seventh sweep this fall.
Bentley served up 15 aces, matching its total from a win over Franklin Pierce just two weeks ago (Sept. 27).
Elizabeth Blinn led all players with five aces, and
Jazzy Burke added three. It was Blinn's second consecutive match with exactly five service aces (vs. Bridgeport, Oct. 9). Her season high is six aces, which came during a non-conference home win over New Haven (Sept. 14).
The Falcons held a 14-12 lead following a service error by the Hawks in the second set. That's when Blinn stepped back to serve, putting up an ace in her first try. Bentley rattled off another seven consecutive points, including two more aces by Blinn.
Bentley held a 20-15 lead in the third set, but Saint Anselm kept the fight alive by tying the frame, 23-23. The matched appeared destined for a fourth set when the Hawks added one more point, but another Saint Anselm service kept Bentley's hopes for a sweep alive.
The Hawks committed another two errors, allowing Bentley to win the third set, 26-24.
Caitlin Wunder led the Falcons in kills with 10. Four Falcons totaled double-digit digs: Burke (13),
Tory Vitko (11),
Sophia Poehlein (11).
Bentley has a quick turnaround when it hosts Adelphi Saturday, Oct. 12, at 1 p.m.
