WALTHAM, Mass. – A combination of six Bentley seniors and grad students accounted for all of the football team's scoring in a 41-14 Senior Day triumph over Saint Anselm Saturday afternoon. What's more, senior wideout
Rashon Bradford eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards for the season, becoming the first Falcon in five years to reach the millennial mark.
Bentley and Saint Anselm entered the regular-season finale with identical 5-2 Northeast-10 records, tied for second in the conference. The two teams previously met in Manchester for a non-conference game in the second week of the season, when Bentley eked out a 3-0 win (Sept. 14).
By all accounts, Saturday's game was expected be a tight one. Instead, Bentley's upperclassmen led the Falcons to blowout victory.
Quarterback
Brett Pullman, a graduate student, threw for 315 yards and five touchdown passes. It was his second consecutive game without throwing an interception.
Bradford totaled 82 receiving yards on nine catches and two touchdowns. During Bentley's final possession of the game, Bradford had four catches for 34 yards, giving him 1,007 yards for the season. That sum ranks 10th all-time in Bentley history, and it's the most receiving yards by a Falcon since Drew Mahoney had 1,039 receiving yards in 2019.
Senior tight end
Pat Damon caught the game's first touchdown in the first quarter – a 12-yard strike from Pullman.
Bradford's fist touchdown reception came in the second quarter, and Holmes closed out the first half with a two-yard rushing touchdown. Holmes' score was set up by a 63-yard reception by senior wide receiver
Isaiah Decias.
Bentley took a 21-0 lead into halftime.
The Falcons needed only three minutes to reach pay dirt in the second half. The Hawks started the third quarter with possession, but graduate student defensive lineman
Isaiah Gomes intercepted a pass on Saint Anselm's 33-yard line. Given the great field position, Bentley ended up taking advantage with a four-yard touchdown catch by
Max Wolfgang.
Late in the third quarter, senior wide receiver
Jonathan Oriakhi caught a 48-yard bomb from Pullman down the middle of the field for six points.
Bradford scored his second touchdown of the game from seven yards out just five minutes into the fourth quarter.
The Bentley defense held the Hawks off the scoreboard until one minute into the fourth quarter. In addition to Gomes' interception, graduate student defensive lineman
Herve Tshibamba had a couple of sacks. Senior
Mike DiPlacido recorded eight tackles and a pass breakup, while senior
Rene Nunez nearly matched those numbers with seven tackles and a pass breakup.
