WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior guard
Cash McClure (Readfield, Maine/Maranacook HS) scored a career-high 30 points and hit five of the Falcons' 18 three-pointers as Bentley University shot past American International College, 102-70, in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball Tuesday on the Dana Center's Barbara Stevens Court.
Bentley put on a shooting exhibition, particularly in the first half, and shot 66.1 percent overall. The Falcons were slightly better from three, connecting on 18 of 27 for a .667 accuracy rate.
It was a two-point game, with the home team up 17-15, with 13 minutes to play in the first half. The next eight minutes saw the Falcons embark on a 29-4 explosion, a run that was fueled by the long ball. They made nine of 11 over that stretch with six different players connecting from downtown.
Junior guard
Luke Britton (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs HS) made the first two and McClure the next three.
That remarkable shooting stretch made it 46-17 with 5:13 left until the half. By the intermission, Bentley was 13 of 18 from deep and had nearly doubled the Yellow Jackets, 59-30. McClure had 17 points, graduate guard
Aaron Latham (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury HS) followed with 11 and junior forward
Joe Carroll (Cedar Grove, N.J./Don Bosco Prep), in his second career start, had ten.
Bentley shot 71 percent in the half, both from three and overall, and had a 19-6 rebound domination.
Coach
Jay Lawson's team continued the strong offensive effort in the second half with the differential remaining between 27 and 41 points. There was a run of 12 straight points over a two-minute span that made it a 76-36 game with 14 minutes remaining.
McClure's 11-of-13 shooting effort included five-of-seven from three-point land. The other Falcons to score in doubles were Latham and Carroll, each with 14. Latham was four of five from distance and Carroll scored his 14 without missing a shot (6-6 FG, 2-2 3's).
Britton's three triples gave him nine points and sophomore forward
Cooper Farrall (Valparaiso, Ind./Culver Academies) finished with eight points and ten rebounds.
Junior guard Justice Ellison (Windsor, Conn.) led AIC (1-6, 1-1 NE10) with 25 points. He made 10 of his 18 shots and the rest of the Yellow Jackets were a combined 15 of 38.
Bentley (2-4, 1-2 NE10) was a plus-20 on the boards, 37-17, and totaled 25 assists, led by a career-high six by sophomore guard
Dre Roman (Loiza, P.R.).
The Falcons are off until Sunday when they'll play a 2 pm game at the University of Bridgeport.
