Poehlein makes Bentley history with NCAA All-Tournament Team honor

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophia Poehlein is the first Falcon in Bentley history to be named to the NCAA D-II Volleyball All-Tournament Team.

The freshman from Zionsville, Ind. had 19 kills during the historic five-set win over #1 Ferris State (Dec. 12). The following day, she put away 12 kills against eventual national champion Lynn (Dec. 13).

Competing in Sioux Falls, S.D., Bentley was the #8 seed and had a tall task in the NCAA Quarterfinals against undefeated #1 Ferris State. The Falcons made history in more ways than one with the victory. They became the first Northeast-10 volleyball team in conference history to reach the NCAA Semifinals. Bentley also became the first #8 seed to advance to the NCAA Semifinals ever since the NCAA began re-seeding for the Elite Eight in 2016.

Poehlein has a knack being at her best in big matches. She posted a season-high 22 kills during the NE10 Championship match at American International (AIC), and she had 15 kills in the NCAA East Regional Championship victory (also against AIC).

Poehlein's rookie season also includes an All-East Region Honorable Mention nod from the American Volleyball Coaches Association, and an All-Northeast-10 Second Team selection.

In all, Poehlein finished the 2024 campaign as the team leader in kills per set (3.02) and points per set (3.55).
