WALTHAM, Mass. – Graduate student
Chad Meyers scored a 25
th minute goal to lift Bentley past Saint Anselm, 1-0 in its home opener on Tuesday night in a non-conference game.
The Falcons remain unbeaten after four games with a 2-0-2 record.
Meyers' goal in the 25
th minute gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
Johann Fraser won a duel for the ball in midfield against a Hawks player and fed a quick pass to Meyers that sprung him for a breakaway. Meyers used his speed to dribble in about 25 yards on goal, and deft finish to the low left corner of the net finished the goal.
Five yellow cards were given in the opening 45 minutes.
Shots were even at 7-7 in the second half and both teams had quality scoring chances.
Bentley's
Antonio Santos laced a shot on goal in the 77
th minute that was saved by Saint Anselm keeper David Hood.
In the final minute Saint Anselm had a corner kick that Hood came up the field for and he was able to his head on the ball for an attempt on goal, only for Falcons goalie
Cam Hall to knock it away.
After that the clock expired and Bentley was a 1-0 winner.
These teams will play again on Sept. 25 with three NE10 points on the line.
