Rockville Centre, N.Y. – Bentley began a weekend trip in New York with a 3-0 sweep of Molloy on Friday afternoon, 25-13, 25-17, 26-24.
Four different players had at least seven kills, as the Falcons won their fifth straight match and improved to 5-3.
Freshman
Tory Vitko led the way with eight kills, and
Rachel Vitko,
Elizabeth Blinn and
Sophia Poehlein each had seven.
Bentley trailed in the first set 9-8 at one point, but ripped off seven points in a row to take a 15-9 lead. After two straight Molloy points, the Falcons closed the set with 10 of the last 12 points.
The second set was close early on as well, but a 6-0 Falcons run saw them take a 13-9 lead. The Lions got to within 18-16, but Bentley closed on a 7-1 run to take the set.
The third set went back-and-forth and was tied 24-24, but an attack error on Molloy and a kill by Blinn gave the Falcons the victory.
Bentley is in action twice tomorrow when they take on Queens (NY) at 10:00 AM and Lewis at 12:30 PM.
