WALTHAM, Mass. – Caitlin Wunder totaled a season-high seven blocks, and
Elizabeth Blinn added seven blocks of her own, to lead the Bentley volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-16) win over Assumption in the Falcons' first NE10 match of the season.
After starting the season 0-3, Bentley has put together an eight-match winning streak.
Tory Vitko led all players in assists with 17, and
Jazzy Burke contributed a team-high 14 digs. Vitko also had 10 digs to come away with her fourth double-double of the season.
The first set was tied, 10-10, when a Greyhounds service error started a 5-0 run for the Falcons. It appeared that Bentley got comfortable with the lead, and Assumption crept back to tie the set, 18-18.
Following a timeout called by Bentley head coach
Joey Pacis, the Falcons put forth a 4-0 run on their way to winning the set.
The second set was similar to the first when the Falcons had a 15-11 lead following a kill by Wunder, but Assumption fought back to tie it up, 18-18. However, a kill by Blin was followed by two Assumption errors, and Bentley rolled on to win the frame.
The Falcons dominated the third set, holding a lead as large as 17-11.
Bentley continues its NE10 slate when it hosts Franklin Pierce Friday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m., as part of Falcon Weekend.
