Box Score BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Cash McClure reached 1,000 points for his Bentley career as the men's basketball team beat Post, 80-69, Tuesday afternoon. The game was hosted by Bridgeport.
McClure entered the contest with 999 career points. He reached the millennial mark by hitting a layup two-and-a-half minutes into the game. He is the 59
th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points. McClure's deep Bentley resume includes a couple of All-Northeast 10 selections, an All-Region nod, and an Academic All-America distinction.
McClure scored 18 points against Post by shooting 5-for-10 from the floor, and 7-for-8 from the free-throw line.
Chase Clarke notched his third double-double of the season with 14 points and a season-high 13 boards.
Ivan Misic reached double figures in scoring for the fourth time this season, finishing with 13 points.
Mantas Zilys scored a career-high 19 points for Bentley, shooting a perfect 12-for-12 from the free-throw line. The Bentley record for made free-throws in a game without a miss is 18, achieved by Ray Andersen against Nichols in Feb. 1969.
Overall, Bentley shot 28-for-31 (90.3-percent) from the free-throw line against the Eagles. It stands as Bentley's most made free-throws in a game since the Falcons sank 31 in Nov. 2009. The opponent then was Post.
The Falcons opened this week leading the NE10 in free-throw shooting, connecting on 80.2-percent of their attempts. That figure is now up to 82.5-percent.
Bentley's free-throw shooting was critical late in the game. Post cut the Falcons' lead to one possession, 66-63, with 4:00 left in regulation. It was the closest the Eagles got to Bentley since the Falcons had a 27-24 lead in the first half.
Zilys connected on a couple of free-throws to push the lead to 68-63. The Eagles answered by hitting a jump shot, but McClure quickly responded with two points. The Falcons held a 70-65 lead when they got a defensive stop, and Zilys returned to the free-throw line. He connected on two more attempts, increasing the lead to 72-65 with 1:40 on the clock.
Zilys then came up with a steal, and Misic was sent to the free-throw line. He made both attempts. Post attempted four 3-pointers in the game's final 80 seconds, connecting on just one of those shots.
In contrast, Bentley couldn't miss from the free-throw line down the stretch. The Falcons shot 10-for-10 from the line in the game's final 1:40.
Bentley heads south this week for the Mocs Christmas Classic hosted by Florida Southern, Dec. 19-20.
