Distance Runners Pace Bentley at Terrier Classic and Panther Invitational

Lily Tedford
WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley's distance runners had a strong weekend as the Falcons competed at both the Terrier Classic and the Panther Invitational II.

At the Terrier Classic, Caitlin Burmester finished 60th in the one mile in a field of 197 runners, a field that included Division I runners from schools such as North Carolina and Stanford. Her time was 4:53.52, which is the fastest mile in the NE10 so far this season.

That bettered the time she ran in the mile last weekend by about two seconds, which provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Championship.

Freshman Lily Tedford also ran the mile, and her time of 5:11.05 is the third fastest in the NE10 so far. That bettered her time in the mile from last weekend by more than six seconds.

At the Panther Invitational, Samantha Doran was fifth in the mile (5:36.49) and Leesil Gilbert was 11th.

In the 800, Amelia Luetjen was sixth (2:29.97).

The Falcons will next compete at the URI Coaches Invitational on February 8, as they continue to gear up for the NE10 Indoor Championships on Feb. 22-23.
