WALTHAM, Mass. –
A.J. Hodges scored 2:15 into overtime to give Bentley a 4-3 victory over Canisius in a back-and-forth game on Friday night.
The Falcons overcame a 2-0 deficit with three unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead early in the third period, only for Canisius to tie it with 6:47 remaining.
The game went into overtime tied 3-3 but Hodges' goal sent the fans home happy.
Stephen Castagna started a rush up the ice and dropped the puck off to Hodges before he entered the offensive zone. Hodges then broke into the zone with speed and beat Canisius goalie Petter Wickstrom Stumer five-hole for the goal.
Bentley outshot Canisius 11-3 in the first period but found itself trailing 1-0 after a goal by Kyle Haskins at 2:03 of the 2
nd period on the power play. It became 2-0 when Luke Farthing scored at the 9:44 mark.
After about five minutes of trailing 2-0, the Falcons quickly erased the deficit with two goals in 23 seconds.
Ethan Leyh scored the first goal at 15:16, followed by
Artem Buzoverya scoring with a shot from the slot over Stumer's glove after taking a pass from
Peter Kramer.
Three minutes into the third period Bentley took the lead on Leyh's second goal of the night and 13
th of the season. Leyh won an offensive zone faceoff and fed the puck to
Stephen Castagna who wheeled around the net and found Leyh out in front for the goal.
The Falcons held the lead for a little over 10 minutes until Canisius' Grant Porter tied it at the 13:17 mark.
Bentley improved to 17-12-2 overall and 15-7-1 in Atlantic Hockey with the win.
They will go for the series sweep and a fifth win in a row on Saturday at 4:00 PM on Senior Day.
