WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley's four game winning streak was snapped with a 5-3 defeat to Canisius on Saturday night.
Prior to the game, the Falcons' senior class of
Artem Buzoverya,
Nik Armstrong-Kingkade,
A.J. Hodges,
Sam Duerr,
Tanner Main and
Tucker Hodgson were honored for their contributions to Bentley on and off the ice.
The Falcons fell behind 2-0 after the opening 5:23 but like they did on Friday, they battled back to tie the score.
Kellan Hjartarson scored on the power play at 12:54 of the first period, his eighth goal of the season.
With the puck in the offensive zone
Ryan Mansfield put a shot on net that was saved by Canisius' Petter Wickstrom but Hjartarson fought through traffic to score off the rebound.
Bentley tied it at 9:34 of the second period on
Nik Armstrong-Kingkade's seventh goal of the year.
Ethan Leyh won an offensive zone faceoff and played the puck to
Stephen Castagna who got a quick touch over to Armstrong-Kingkade, who fired a shot from inside the right faceoff circle for the goal.
Canisius though went in front at 14:00 of the 2
nd frame on a tally by Kyle Haskins, which proved to the go-ahead goal.
The scored stayed 3-2 for most of the 3
rd period until Haskins scored again at 16:33. An empty net goal by Alex Cicero made it 5-3, before Buzoverya scored for the Falcons on the power play, assisted by Leyh and Castagna, with 38 seconds remaining.
The Falcons will play the final two games of the regular season next week on Thursday at Holy Cross and Saturday at Sacred Heart.
