Hasley and Falcons Record 8th Shutout of the Season in 3-0 Win at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Connor Hasley and the Falcons recorded their eighth shutout of the season as Bentley won at Holy Cross 3-0 on Thursday night.

Hasley made 37 saves as the Falcons earned the win in the penultimate game of the regular season.

Bentley's victory snapped Holy Cross' 16-game Atlantic Hockey winning streak and it snapped their 12-game unbeaten streak.

The Falcons held on to a 1-0 lead after a goal late in the first period by Jake Black. An empty-net goal by Stephen Castagna with 1:48 left in the game made it 2-0, and an empty-net, shorthanded goal by Nik Armstrong-Kingkade with 4.8 seconds left sealed the win.

The opening goal at 18:07 came after defenseman Colton Cameron threaded a pass from the neutral zone to Black as he entered the offensive zone. Black then took one stride and quickly fired a shot from the top of the left circle past the glove of Thomas Gale.

The teams then battled through a scoreless second period where Bentley outshot Holy Cross 12-10.

In the third period Hasley was at his best with 15 saves as the Crusaders ramped up the pressure.

With 2:21 remaining in the third period Gale was pulled for an extra attacker. With 1:57 remaining Holy Cross won an offensive zone faceoff and a shot attempt by Matt Kursonis was blocked by Bentley's Arlo Merritt. Merritt gained control of the puck and passed ahead to Castagna who scored from center ice for a 2-0 lead with 1:48 left.

The Falcons went on the penalty kill with 1:13 remaining and faced a 6-on-4 power play for Holy Cross. Hasley made three saves and Bentley blocked three shots, two by Garrett Horsager and one by Cameron. Armstrong-Kingkade then sealed the win with his goal, assisted by Ethan Leyh.

Bentley (18-13-2, 16-8-1) can still win the AHA regular season title with a regulation win on Saturday at Sacred Heart and a regulation loss by Holy Cross to AIC on Monday.
