Hunter Smith scored a career-high six goals to help lead #14 Bentley to an 11-5 victory over #12 Mercy on Sunday in the Falcons' season opener.
Will Adams added two goals and two assists for Bentley, which never trailed.
Smith scored the first goal of the contest 5:54 into the first quarter. He added another goal late in the first quarter, two in the second quarter and two in the third quarter.
Jackson Tinsley made a career-high 16 saves and had a 76.1 save percentage.
The Mavericks pulled to within 9-5 with 1:03 remaining in the third quarter after a goal by Devon Duchnowski but that was their final goal of the afternoon.
Thomas Hirsh and
David Gagnon scored in the fourth quarter and Tinsley made four saves in the final frame.
Alex Parton had two caused turnovers and five ground balls. He shared the team high for ground balls with
Dalton MacKinnon and
Nick Berglund. MacKinnon won 10-19 faceoffs.
Bentley (1-0) will now turn its attention to its home opener on March 5 against Bridgeport.
