Results
Entering the last leg of the 4x800 relay, Bentley trailed by as many as three teams. But MacArthur discovered a new gear and entered the final straightaway in second place - just a step behind Southern Connecticut. The Bentley sophomore tumbled across the finish line, but the race was too close to immediately call.
MacArthur lay on the ground for a nearly a minute, catching his breath with a fresh 'track burn' on his shoulder. Teammates helped MacArthur to his feet, and still the race was not decided.
Finally, multiple replays indicated that Bentley won the race – by 0.003 seconds. The official winning time was 7:59.376. Capobianco,
Rocco Bueti, and Orr were on that gold-medal relay team.
Orr had a brilliant performance to win gold in the 800-m. He never led until the final turn, and his winning time of 1:57.98 was just about 0.03 seconds ahead of the second-place runner from Assumption. MacArthur was fourth in the event (1:59.18), and
William Reiser finished fifth (2:00.82).
Capobianco's individual silver-medal performances came in the mile (4:18.44) and 3,000-m (8:42.79). He finished only 0.28 seconds behind the lead in the mile, and just 0.06 seconds behind the lead in the 3,000-m.
As a team, Bentley placed sixth overall with 58 points.
