Game Recap: Baseball |

Eigenbrod, pitching staff lead Bentley to two wins over Assumption

WALTHAM, Mass. – Jimmy Mitchell came up with a clutch hit in the eighth inning, and freshman starting pitcher Zach Eigenbrod was stellar on the mound to lead the Bentley baseball team to a 4-3 Northeast-10 win over Assumption Sunday afternoon. Although the game was played on the Bentley campus, Assumption was the acting home team.

The Falcons trailed by a couple of runs, 3-1, entering eighth inning. Rene Nunez got the Bentley rally started by reaching base on an error, and he moved into scoring position thanks to a passed ball. After Tommy Bolton drew a walk, Brendan Sencaj reached base on an error by the third baseman, allowing Nunez to score.

Nick Pappas followed with a single to load the bases for Mitchell. With Bentley behind by just a run, 3-2, Mitchell delivered a two-run single to put the Falcons head.
Gabe White shut the door on Assumption, pitching two perfect hitless innings in relief of Eigenbrod.

For his part, Eigenbrod worked a season-high seven innings, yielding three earned runs on four hits. The Littleton, Colo. native lowered his season ERA to 4.18.
Similarly to Sunday's first game, Bentley started off in an early deficit in the second game of the doubleheader (non-conference, seven innings). Assumption took a 1-0 lead into the third inning, but the Falcons broke through in the third inning.

Parker Coleman, Nunez, and Bolton began the third inning with consecutive singles to load the bases. Sencaj was hit by a pitch to bring in Bentley's first run. During the next at-bat, Nunez and Bolton came in to score on a passed ball to give Bentley a 3-1 lead.

In the fourth inning, Jack Matthews reached base with a single and eventually came into score on a sac fly by Sencaj.

The following inning, Matthews drove in Curth Heath from third base to push the lead to 5-2.

Connor Gileau earned the win by allowing just two hits through four shutout innings out of the bullpen.

Bentley (14-6) returns to the road for a pair of NE10 games at Pace (March 22), followed by two more at Adelphi (March 23).
