WALTHAM, Mass. - #11 Bentley fell at home to #6 Saint Anselm 16-8 in a matchup of nationally ranked teams. It was the second game in 11 days between the two squads.
Saint Anselm raced out to a 3-0 lead after the opening seven-plus minutes of the first quarter. But Bentley responded with a 3-0 run of its own to tie the score. The goals came from Will Andrews,
David Gagnon and
Nick McGovern in a span of just four minutes.
Saint Anselm though went on an 8-0 run that spanned from the end of the first quarter to the 5:47 mark of the second quarter to take an 11-3 lead.
The Falcons broke the run when
Kevin Sheahan scored at the 4:18 mark of the second period.
Bentley went on a 3-0 run late in the third quarter to trim the deficit to 14-7, with the goals scored by Gagnon,
Garrett Witt and
Nathan Alviti.
The teams traded goals early in the fourth quarter, with Evan Spillane scoring for the Hawks and McGovern for Bentley to make the score 15-8 with 11:49 remaining, but that is as close as they could get the rest of the way.
Bentley (3-2, 1-1 NE10) will next play on Thursday at home against Frostburg State for a 6:00 pm start.
