WALTHAM, Mass. – Starting pitching for the No. 24 Bentley baseball was solid in both games of a home doubleheader against Franklin Pierce, but the Falcons lost twice to the Ravens Sunday afternoon. Franklin Pierce took the first game in 13 innings, 7-4, and it won the second game in seven innings, 2-1.
Zach Eigenbrod got the start in the first game. He allowed only two earned runs on four hits through his six-inning outing.
Ryan Glupe started the second game, and he allowed only one earned run through his five innings of work. Â
The Falcons opened the doubleheader by taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the day.
Tommy Bolton and
Brendan Sencaj led off with consecutive singles. They each stole a base, and a groundout RBI by
Nick Pappas put the Falcons on the board.
Franklin Pierce took a 2-1 lead in the third inning, but Bentley got those two runs back in the sixth.
Stan DeMartinis III drew a one-out walk, and he scored when Pappas ripped a triple.
Patrick Purcell then executed a squeeze bunt as Pappas came in to safely slide home.
Bentley added an insurance run in the seventh inning when
Parker Coleman hit a double, and he eventually came in to score on a sac fly by Sencaj.
Franklin Pierce added a run in the eight inning, and a one-out solo home run in the top of the ninth inning sent the game into extra innings.
The Ravens rallied for three runs in the 13
th inning to win it.
Bentley's lone run in the second game came in the third inning.
David VanderZouwen led off with a double, and he came in to score on a base hit by Bolton.
The Falcons aim to bounce back at Southern New Hampshire, April 5.
