WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley Athletics recently held its first Captains Council gathering for the 2025-26 academic year. Sixty-two Falcons attended the initial meeting in The Cube in The Bentley Arena, representing all Bentley varsity teams.
Athletic Director
Vaughn Williams began the meeting by discussing the department's three values: respect, impact, teamwork.
Grace Carter,
Rick Miller, and Barbara Stevens led discussions about vulnerability in leadership.
Captains Council was launched in the fall of 2024 by the office of Student-Athlete Development.
"The purpose of the Captain's Council is to increase our focus on this important role across Bentley Athletics to further develop these leaders for their individual growth, to help these leaders have a more positive impact on the growth of their respective teams, and to establish and share a unifying and ever-expanding 'Falcon Way' of best practices for current and future Bentley Captains," said Carter, Bentley's Manager of Student-Athlete Development.
Miller '80 is Bentley Athletics' Executive-in-Residence. In this new role, Miller works closely with Director of Athletics Williams, Bentley coaches and the Athletics staff on initiatives to support the Athletic Department and Bentley student-athletes. He also directly supports student-athletes as they build skill sets to "Be a Force" both at Bentley and after graduation.Â
Stevens is not only a Bentley legend, but she is a basketball legend. She was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame with the Class of 2020, along with former NBA players such as Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, and Kevin Garnett. Stevens is a five-time NCAA D-II Coach of the Year recipient, and she led Bentley to a national title in 2014.
