Falcons come up short at Pace, 53-49

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Joe Carroll scored 12 points off the bench, and Cash McClure pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds, but the Bentley men's basketball team lost at Pace, 53-49, Wednesday night. It was the first time this season that the Falcons were held to under 60 points in a game.

Carroll shot 5-for-9 from the floor in his 22 minutes of action. He has scored at least 10 points in three of his last four games. Cooper Farrall scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Bentley (11-6, 4-4 NE10).

Both teams struggled to generate offense in the first half, but Bentley held an 18-17 lead through the opening 20 minutes. The Falcons shot 29.2-percent from the floor in the first half, while the Setters (9-7, 4-4 NE10) shot 25.0-percent.

Pace ran out to a 27-20 lead within the first four minutes of the second half. The Setters' lead peaked at 32-23, but that's when Bentley started to find its shooting touch.

Farrall and Mantas Zilys hit consecutive 3-pointers, bringing the Falcons to within 32-29 with 11:35 on the clock. Carroll made it a one-point game, 32-31, when he made a fastbreak layup. Following a Pace bucket, Carroll tied the game, 34-34, by draining one of his two 3-pointers.

Bentley took a 36-34 lead when Carroll tipped in an offensive rebound. Following a defensive stop, Farrall scored on a fastbreak to increase the Bentley lead to 38-34.

The Setts went on a 7-2 run to reclaim the lead, 41-40, with 5:25 left in regulation. The Bentley defense held Pace without a field goal for the next three minutes, and consecutive buckets by Osiris Nalls had Bentley with a 46-42 lead.

Pace tied the game, 46-46, with just over a minute left. Farrall scored in the paint to reclaim the lead, 48-46. The Setters came right back by drilling a 3-pointer to go up by one point. They held the lead for the rest of the game.

Bentley returns home Saturday, Jan. 24, to take on Adelphi at 3 p.m.
