Falcons prepare for rematch against SCSU in New Haven

Christian Jeffers
WALTHAM, Mass. – With five wins in its last six games, the Bentley men's basketball team heads to New Haven for a Northeast 10 game at Southern Connecticut Saturday, Jan. 31. Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m.

Same birds, different nest
The Falcons and Owls go head-to-head for the second time this season. They previously met in Waltham earlier this month when SCSU came away with a 63-60 win (Jan. 4). Cash McClure finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds in that game, and Cooper Farrall contributed 16 points and nine rebounds.

Success on margin
Bentley has the best scoring margin in the NE10 (+8.1). The Falcons average 77.1 on offense, and they're limiting opponents to 69.0 points. The defense is holding opponents to 39.5-percent shooting from the floor. That mark not only leads the NE10, but it also ranks 13th in NCAA DII.

Double trouble
Bentley is the only NE10 team with two players who both rank top 10 in the conference for scoring and rebounding. Cooper Farrall is the conference's fourth-leading scorer with 16.5 points per game, and Cash McClure's 14.9 points per game ranks 10th. For rebounding, Farrall ranks fourth (8.9), and McClure ranks eighth (7.0).

Bountiful boards
Bentley continues to be the only NE10 team averaging at least 40 rebounds per game (40.4). Chase Clarke joins Cooper Farrall and Cash McClure among the top 10 rebounders in the NE10. Clarke ranks ninth with 6.9 rebounds per game.

Mantas preying on defenses
Mantas Zilys leads the NE10 in 3-point shooting by connecting on 49.1-percent of his attempts frown downtown. If Zilys qualified on the national level (he is still a few 3-point attempts short), he would rank second in the nation for 3-point shooting.

Take good care
Bentley averages only 10.8 turnovers per game, which is the best mark in the NE10.

Scouting Southern Connecticut (8-10, 4-6 NE10)
The Owls enter the weekend with five losses in their last six games. The one win during that stretch was against Adelphi (Jan. 21). Justice Ellison is the NE10's third-leading scorer, as he averages 16.6 points per game. Cherif Diarra is the top rebounder in the NE10, averaging 10.5 boards. SCSU has the third-lowest scoring offense in the conference (68.1). In kind, the Owls have the third-worst 3-point percentage in the NE10 (31.7-percent). In the previous matchup against Bentley, Malik Banks scored 25 points, while Ellison (17 points, 10 rebounds) and Diarra (12 points, 12 rebounds) recorded double-doubles.
