Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bentley falls to SNHU, 96-93, in double overtime in first round of NE10 Championship

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley men's basketball team suffered a heartbreaker in the first round of the Northeast 10 Championship, as the #2 Falcons lost to #7 Southern New Hampshire, 96-93, in double overtime Saturday afternoon.

Cooper Farrall finished with a career-high 17 rebounds to go with his 26 points. Cash McClure scored 25 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out six assists for Bentley. Ivan Misic scored 16 points, Mantas Zilys scored 12 points off the bench, and Chase Clarke finished with nine points and eight rebounds before fouling out in the second overtime.

The Penmen's JoJo Wallace set a new NE10 Championship record by scoring 48 points. That total is also a SNHU (15-13) single-game record, and a record in Bentley's Dana Athletic Center.

When Wallace hit a 3-pointer with 1:12 left in regulation, it gave SNHU a 70-65 lead. The ensuing Bentley (19-9) possession came up empty, and so the Falcons had to send the Penmen to the line for one-and-one opportunities. The first such opportunity came with 46 seconds left in regulation, and Wallace missed the first attempt.

The Falcons came back down the floor and McClure pulled up for a jumper from the elbow. His shot went off the rim, but Farrall grabbed the offensive rebound and put it back while drawing a foul. His three-point play brought Bentley to within two points, 70-68.

Once again, SNHU was sent to the line for a one-and-one. The Penmen kept the door open for Bentley and missed the first attempt again. Bentley capitalized with a driving layup by McClure to even the score, 70-70. SNHU had a few seconds to respond, but Wallace's 3-point attempt at the buzzer came up short.

The Falcons ran out to a 78-72 lead with 2:18 left in the first overtime. That run included a 3-pointer by Misic, and a driving left-handed layup by Clarke.

A couple of Bentley miscues allowed SNHU to get to within 78-76, but McClure hit a jumper to make it a two-possession game, 80-76, with 1:04 on the clock. SNHU's T.J. Morris hit a 3-pointer to bring the Penmen to within a point, but Farrall scored in the paint to give Bentley a crucial 82-79 lead.

Morris ended up on the foul line with 17 seconds left in the first overtime. He made the first attempt, but Morris missed the second try. Somehow, Morris rebounded his own miss and scored the game-tying bucket, 82-82, to send the contest into a second overtime.

The Falcons never led in that second overtime period. Wallace accounted SNHU's final 12 points of the game – all of which came in the final 3:35.
