Waltham, Mass. - Bentley is headed to the Atlantic Hockey Championship Game for the second straight season after sweeping Holy Cross in the semifinals with a 4-0 win in game two on Saturday night.
The #1 seed Falcons and regular season champions will get the chance to defend their 2025 AHA championship on home-ice next Saturday night against either Sacred Heart or Robert Morris.
A tight game that Bentley led 2-0 late in the third period was broken open when they scored twice in a 29 second span.
Holy Cross pulled its goalie for an extra attacker with 4:06 remaining and they appeared to score with 3:35 left, only for a successful challenge by Bentley saw the goal overturned. After the review, Bentley's
Michael Mesic scored on the empty net from deep in the defensive zone to make it 3-0 with 2:33 remaining.
Shortly after the ensuing faceoff, Bentley rushed down the ice and
Owen Goodbrand, the game one hero, roofed a shot into the back of the net with 2:04 left to make it 4-0 and seal the win.
Goodbrand picked up where he left off after game one's overtime goal by scoring the first goal of the night in game two. A shot from the point by
Alec Leonard was tipped-in by Goodbrand in front of the net to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead at 9:36 of the first period.
Senior
Ryan Upson made it 2-0 at 4:56 of the second period.
Tobias Larsen brought the puck into the offensive zone and it found its way to Upson, who ripped a shot from the edge of the faceoff circle for the goal.
In the middle of the period Bentley killed off a 4-on-3 power play for Holy Cross to keep the score 2-0.
The Falcons maintained that lead for the rest of the second and into the third frame until Mesic's goal made it 3-0.
Freshman goalie
Lukas Swedin made 23 saves for his 13th win of the season and second shutout.
Bentley improved its record to 22-11-5 and 4-0 in the postseason.
