WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley baseball team keeps finding ways to win. The Falcons completed a four-game sweep over Southern New Hampshire with an 8-7 walk-off win Tuesday afternoon. It was Bentley's third walk-off victory of the series.
The win marks Bentley head coach
Mike Hill's 100
th career victory. He took over the helm leading up to the 2023 season.
Bentley (15-6, 7-1 NE10) entered the bottom of the ninth inning in a 7-6 deficit, but
Nick Pappas launched a leadoff homer to tie the score. It was his fourth home run of the season.
Bentley's next batter, Stan DeMarinis III, drew a walk.
Brendan Sencaj and
Curt Heath hit consecutive singles to load the bases with nobody out. With
Jimmy Mitchell up at bat, SNHU (12-8, 4-4 NE10) threw a pitch in the dirt. The ball careened off the catcher and bounced 15 feet in the air down the third-base line in foul territory. DeMartinis took off from third base the moment he saw the ball in the dirt, and he scored the winning run without a throw home.
The Penmen held a 3-0 lead through three-and-a-half innings, but the Falcons broke through in the bottom of the fourth when
Brendan Sencaj crushed a two-run homer. It was his sixth long ball of the season.
The Falcons remained in a 3-2 deficit entering the bottom of the fifth inning, but
Brian Hersh led off with a home run that tied the score. It was his second home run of the season.
Pappas and Sencaj both went 3-for-5 at the plate, while
Curt Heath and Hersh both collected two hits.
The Falcons head to New York this weekend for four games at Pace, March 27-29.
