WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley softball team was held scoreless through the first 10 innings of Tuesday's doubleheader against Assumption, but the Falcons rallied to win the second game, 6-4. Bentley came up just short in the first game, 1-0.
The Falcons (9-17, 4-6 NE10) were in a 3-0 deficit entering the fourth inning of the second game, but that's when their bats came to life in memorable fashion. Freshman shortstop
Emma Callahan belted her first-career home run to bring the Falcons to within 3-2.
Michelle Diaz was on base for Callahan's homer after drawing a walk.
Bentley carried that momentum into the fifth inning as it scored four runs in the stanza.
Hailey Feiler led off with a single, and she moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by
Carly DiMento.
Bella Burke followed with an RBI double that tied the game, 3-3. Two batters later,
Jess Morrison ripped a double that gave the Falcons a 4-3 lead.
Bentley's big fifth inning was capped off by a two-run single hit by
Maddie Baker.
Taylor Zajac pitched her third consecutive complete game in Tuesday's first contest. She has a 1.84 ERA in her last three starts.
The Falcons next host Saint Anselm for doubleheaders, April 4 and April 6.
