NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Bentley dropped an 18-10 decision at Southern Connecticut State for just its second defeat in the last seven games.
The Falcons and Owls came into the game in a three-way tie for third place in the NE10 standings along with Saint Anselm with 4-2 conference records. SCSU moves into sole possession of third with Saint Anselm to play later tonight.
Bentley trailed 9-4 at halftime but pulled to within four goals twice in the third quarter.
A goal by
Ava Mule 27 seconds into the quarter made it 9-5, and a strike by
Natalia Dutkewych at the 8:21 mark made it 10-6.
The Owls then scored two straight, before
Callie Burchill found the back of the net with 1:32 left in the third quarter to make the score 12-7.
In the fourth quarter, Bentley's
Lorena Rivera scored with 7:01 remaining to cut Southern's lead to 14-9. But the Owls answered with a 4-0 run over the next four minutes to take an 18-9 lead late in the game.
Bentley (6-7, 4-3 NE10) next plays on Saturday against Pace at 1:00 pm for its final home game of the regular season.
