WALTHAM, Mass. –
Abi Hennessey scored a hat trick as #17 ranked Bentley women's soccer cruised past Daemen 6-2 on Sunday in its home opener.
The Falcons improved to 5-0 on the season as the game was played in a steady rain.
Hennessey scored in the 15
th minute, then scored twice in the second half less than three minutes apart, in the 66
th and 69
th minutes.
Sydney DeRoche,
Kendra Foley and
Morgan Wagner also scored. For Wagner it was her first career NCAA goal.
Bentley actually trailed in this match 1-0 after an 11
th minute goal by Daemen's Mia Wright. But Hennessey's first of the afternoon four minutes later tied the score. She headed in a deflected shot by Foley for the goal from 10 yards out.
Less than a minute later Bentley drew a foul in the penalty area and was awarded a penalty kick, which DeRoche deposited into the back of the net for a 2-1 lead.
Foley made it 3-1 with her second goal of the season in the 50
th minute, assisted by Hennessey.
16 minutes elapsed before Hennessey went to work again. She scored off an assist by
Rose Frisoli in the 66
th minute, then completed the hat trick in the 69
th minute with the assist by
McKay Pratt.
Wagner's goal in the 84
th minute was assisted by
Annie Vigue.
Bentley will look for a 6-0 start on Friday when they host American International in a non-conference game.
