Jay Wright
Jay Wright is a Hall of Fame basketball coach, national champion, and respected leader whose career has been defined by sustained excellence, relationship-building, and the development of championship cultures.
Wright spent 21 seasons as the head coach of Villanova University, transforming the Wildcats into one of the premier programs in college basketball. Under his leadership, Villanova captured two NCAA National Championships in 2016 and 2018, reached four Final Fours, won eight BIG EAST regular-season championships and five BIG EAST Tournament titles. He retired as Villanova’s all-time winningest coach with 520 victories and finished his head coaching career with 642 wins.
His accomplishments earned him some of the highest honors in the sport. Wright is a two-time Naismith National Coach of the Year, six-time BIG EAST Coach of the Year, and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2021. He was also named the Associated Press Men’s College Basketball Coach of the Decade in 2020.
Beyond wins and championships, Wright built his reputation around creating a strong team culture and developing student-athletes both on and off the court. During his tenure, Villanova's program paired its competitive success with academic achievement, and every player who spent four years in the program earned his degree.
After retiring from coaching in 2022, Wright transitioned into broadcasting and currently serves as a college basketball studio and game analyst for CBS Sports, including coverage of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.
Through his commitment to culture, character, teamwork, and excellence, Wright's career demonstrates the impact a leader can have not only on a team's performance, but on the people within it — embodying what it means to BE A FORCE.
