Box Score WATERTOWN, Mass. – Bentley extended its unbeaten streak to seven games (6-0-1) with a 3-3 tie with No. 9 ranked Northeastern at the JAR on Friday night.
Sophomore winger Jonathan Desbiens (Montreal, Quebec) scored the tying goal for Bentley with 7:55 left in the 3rd period. The goal came just 23 seconds after Northeastern took a 3-2 lead on a goal by right wing Dylan Sikura.
Falcons goalie Aidan Pelino (Oakville, Ontario) made 33 saves, as he extended his personal unbeaten streak to seven games.
Bentley jumped out to a 1-0 lead early on, as freshman Brendan Hamblet (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored his first career goal just 5:07 into the first period. The goal came off a pass from the right wing by senior Andrew McDonald (New Brighton, Minn.), and Hamblet beat Huskies goalie Cayden Primeau with a shot underneath his pads.
Bentley held that 1-0 lead for most of the period, but the Huskies evened the score in the final minute of the period, after center Biagio Lerario scored off a rebound from a shot by left wing Grant Jozefek.
Northeastern tallied the only goal of the second period, which came at the 13:01 mark, off the stick of center Adam Gaudette, who came into the game in the top-10 nationally in points per game.
Trailing 2-1 in the 3rd period, Bentley's red-hot power play unit notched the tying goal at the 5:27 mark. Captain Kyle Schmidt (Menomonee Falls, Wisc.) found the back of the net, with the assists coming from defensemen Alexey Solovyev (Moscow, Russia) and Charlie Marchand (Calgary, Alberta).
About six minutes later, Northeastern jumped in front on Sikura's goal. But Bentley fought back and almost immediately tied the score 3-3. Freshman Luke Santerno (Smithers, B.C.) had a shot on goal saved by Primeau, but Desbiens swopped in and deposited the rebound for the tying goal.
Pelino came up big in overtime with five saves, none bigger than robbing left wing Matt Filipe on the doorstep with a pad save with 14 seconds remaining.
Bentley's record goes to 7-7-4 on the season, and it's the third straight season they have either won or tied against the Huskies at home.
These same two teams are back at it tomorrow night, as the series shifts to Matthews Arena in Boston.
