No. 22 Bentley Takes Third Straight with 13-6 Win over Southern Conn

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore goalie Eliza Bresler (Newton, Mass./Newton North) made a career high 19 saves and four different players scored two goals to lift the Bentley women's lacrosse team to a 13-6 victory at Southern Connecticut on Saturday afternoon.
 
Bresler made nine saves in the first half and 10 in the second half as she earned her seventh win of the season.
 
The game was tight for the first 16 minutes of the first half with the Falcons in front by just one goal at 3-2. But Bentley began to break the game open with five of the half's final six goals to lead 8-3 at halftime.
 
A 2-0 run with goals by MaryKate Staines (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) at 12:44 and Claire Thompson (Slingerlands, N.Y./Guilderland) at 11:16 got the run started. The Owls broke the run with a goal by Nicole Healy in a man-up position, but then Bentley closed the half with a 3-0 run.
 
A free-position, man-up goal by Julia Glavin (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) started the next run at the 7:43 mark. Goals by Ciara Morley (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington) on a free-position shot and Thompson closed out the half for Bentley.
 
The Falcons started the second half with two quick goals to open up a 10-3 lead. Freshman Cara McCarthy (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) scored in a man-up situation just 43 seconds into the half, with senior Paige O'Neill (Amityville, N.Y./St. John) on the assist. O'Neill then scored herself just over four minutes later.
 
The Owls got their first goal of the half from midfielder Taylor Portelinha at 20:26, but that was their final goal for almost 15 minutes. During that time Bentley reeled off three goals to lead 13-4. McCarthy converted a free-position opportunity at the 15:24. Through the remainder of the run, junior Sabrina Goebel (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) scored in man-up situation at 9:36, followed by a goal from freshman Jillian Lynch (Wilton, Conn./Wilton).
 
In addition to making 19 saves, Bresler also scooped up a game-high eight ground balls. Glavin had a game high four draw controls.
The win improved Bentley's records to 7-2 overall and 6-1 NE10. They will go for a fourth straight win on Wednesday in a showdown of ranked teams when they host No. 2 Adelphi at 3:00 pm
