Mankins HR Gives Bentley Split with No. 18 Adelphi; Krause & Hillier Break Program Records

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore leftfielder Jordan Krause (San Pedro, Calif./San Pedro HS) hit her 10th home run of her career, tying the program's all-time record, and senior first baseman Kaylee Mankins (North Attleboro/Bishop Feehan HS) hit a go-ahead home run in the sixth as Bentley University rallied past Adelphi University, the 18th-ranked team in Division II, with a 5-4 game-two victory in Northeast-10 Conference softball Friday on the new Bentley turf softball field.

Game one went to Adelphi, 1-0, as junior Lindsey Hibbs (Brampton, Ont.) outdueled Bentley junior right-hander Payton Doiron (Beacon Falls, Conn./St. Joseph HS). Ironically, Doiron was the winning pitcher in the nightcap and Hibbs took the loss.

The split left the Falcons with records of 14-8 overall and 5-1 NE10, good for sole possession of first place. Adelphi dropped to 18-5 overall and 4-2 conference.

Bentley scored its first run of the afternoon in the bottom of the first of game two. After the Panthers scored twice in the top half of the inning, senior catcher Ella Hillier (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin HS) doubled to left, driving in senior third baseman Jessica Trahan (Merrimack, N.H./Merrimack HS). It was her 37th career two-bagger, breaking program record owned by Catherine Connolly since 1994.

Two innings, Bentley history was made again when Krause drove a three-run homer over the left field fence to not only break the school record set by Kaileen Cain last year but tie up the game at 4-4. Krause reached the record in just her 64th career contest.

In the sixth, with the game still deadlocked, Mankins drove the ball over the center field fence, a homer that proved to be the game winner. It was her second of the season and eighth of her career, third most in program history.

Doiron, who came on in relief in the fifth, gave up a one-out infield single in the seventh. But she retired the next two batters on a strikeout and a pop-up to secure the win for the Falcons and earn her sixth victory of the season. She allowed two hits and one walk in her three innings while striking out two.

In the opener, Hibbs was outstanding and Doiron also turned in a strong performance from the center circle. Hibbs struck out 14 Falcons while giving up only three hits, all of which were doubles, and one walk.

Doiron fanned seven while allowing five hits and one walk.

The game's only run was scored in the fifth inning. Junior shortstop Jaden Farhat (Carlstadt, N.J.) singled, took second on a bunt single, was sacrificed to third and scored on a two-out single to center by freshman center fielder Jordyn Pasqueralli (Levittown, N.Y.).

Bentley's hits were doubles by Hillier, junior right fielder Kylee Amato (Bergenfield, N.J./Acad. of the Holy Angels) and senior second baseman Katherine Noftall (Ipswich/Ipswich HS).

Bentley will be back on the new field Sunday for a noon doubleheader against Pace University.
